Zeitgeist Movie - Be Informed

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I was shocked after watching this. Peter Joseph has produced a video that may cause you to look at religion and our government in a whole new light. Prepare to be challenged. The truth is out there, but what is it?

FIRST COUNCIL OF NICAEA - 325 AD

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Although I thought the the full concept of the Trinity was being decided at the Council of Nicaea, it appears that it had primarily been the deity of Christ, as being God. It seems that the holy Spirit was added in some time after, between 325-381, possibly in the First Council of Constantinople.

Straight from the Council of Nicaea is this Biblical?

“We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible; and in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the Father, that is, of the substance [ek tes ousias] of the Father, God of God, light of light, true God of true God, begotten not made, of the same substance with the Father [homoousion to patri], through whom all things were made both in heaven and on earth; who for us men and our salvation descended, was incarnate, and was made man, suffered and rose again the third day, ascended into heaven and cometh to judge the living and the dead. And in the Holy Ghost.
Those who say: There was a time when He was not, and He was not before He was begotten; and that He was made our of nothing (ex ouk onton); or who maintain that He is of another hypostasis or another substance [than the Father], or that the Son of God is created, or mutable, or subject to change, [them] the Catholic Church anathematizes.”

What about the Godhead?

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

I was recently reading about the trinity at ReachoutTrust.org (link) where I read this quote:

“The Father is not the same person as the Son; the Son is not the same person as the Holy Spirit; and the Holy Spirit is not the same person as Father. They are distinct persons; yet, they are all the one God. They are in absolute perfect harmony consisting of one substance. They are coeternal, coequal, and copowerful. If any one of the three were removed, there would be no God.”

First, I’m puzzled in that it says, “If any one of the three were removed, there would be no God.” Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Christ, the Son of God, die? Note that if he didn’t die, his crucifixan would have been in vain. But the Bible says he did die. But if Jesus died, he was truly dead, because we know that which is dead is not alive. There is an Old Testament prophecy given in Psalm 16:10 stating, “…you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.” If Jesus was not truely dead why would God have to raise him from death as described in Act 13:29-37. The Question to ask is can God die?

God anoints Jesus… Questions on the Trinity

Conflict with the Trinity…

John 4:23-24
23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

Acts 10

37You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

42He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.

By this we can see God is spirit; God anointed Jesus with his spirit and dwelt with him, just as through Christ’s death on the cross the spirit now dwells in us; the father is with us. God would have no need to anoint Jesus with the holy spirit if Jesus were already fully God. I will note that the Bible also says that Christ spirit is with us. It’s possible we all share a connection to God through the spirit.

We may all share one spirit of God?

What is the Message of the Bible?

Monday, February 18th, 2008

I would believe that most Christians believe that the Bible is about a message of salvation. And, although this message is apparent in the Bible, is it the real message of the Bible? If we believe Jesus is our Lord, shouldn’t we take example and follow him. But then that means we are to preach the same message that Jesus preached. Did he preach a message of salvation? Or, did he preach of God’s coming kingdom? Let see…

Matthew 4:17
From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

Matthew 4:23
Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

Matthew 5:3
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

What might God look like?

Monday, February 18th, 2008

I saw this image in a movie and thought of Ezekiel among other biblical visions of God presence. If I were to guess what Christ would look like in heaven with all of God’s glory, this might be it.

When you look at this picture, imagine:

Revelation 21:23
“the glory of God is its light, and the Lamb is the city’s lamp.”

Is God really a Mystery?

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

I believe that as told in the Bible, God created all things. This includes physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, etc. I also believe that God does not break his own laws for he said.

Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie,
nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?

Mathematics (created by God) teaches:

1 + 1 + 1 = 3   Are there three God’s?

1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1   A fractional God?

100% human + 100% God = 200%   Sorry?

1 [God] x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x … x 1 = 1 [God]

Notice, no matter how you multiply it, there is always only One God! God proved it through mathematics that God is only One!

Questions on the Trinity?

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

First we must agree on what the Trinity is and what it teaches:

God is one and three persons consisting of the following:

  1. Jesus, Son of God whom is fully man and fully God,
  2. The Holy Spirit who is the spirit of God, thus also being fully God,
  3. God the Father whom is fully God.

If they are all one in the same God they must all include the following attributes that God is all knowing (past, present, and future), omnipotent, omnipresent, and inseparable.

Seek and you shall find…

Monday, February 11th, 2008

You read books to understand scripture, but you should read scripture to understand the truth. Search the scriptures daily, testing to see what is true. It is man’s translations of scripture that hide the truth of Gods words; read the footnotes.

The Various Plants of the Churches

There are both good seed and bad seed; simply look at the roots of the tree. The roots of weeds will only spawn weeds and will be cut away. The roots of a rose produce a beautiful flower seen by all, but they too will get cut and die by the Gardener. The roots born of the seed of truth, God’s message, shall produce a tree baring great fruit which is ever lasting. The Church is a tree, and its roots must be from scripture or it shall be cast aside in the end.

Why am I doing this?

Friday, February 8th, 2008

As a young lad I grew up within the Presbyterian and Baptist church attending many church youth groups. Throughout high school I always had a belief in God and Jesus, but I think that there was still some questions berried in the back of my mind. I’d bet that most people that actually dive into the word come up with questions. After facing some religious challenges debating against Mormonism, I became fatigued of the whole religious picture and it left many unanswered question about myself. I kept attending church, married, and had two kids. But recently about four months ago my grandfather a respected, dearly loved servant of the Lord and Presbyterian minister past away. Shortly after that I received his seminary ring. Since then I felt somewhat called back into trying to rediscover what I truly believe based on Biblical teachings and not those of men. If I could find the faith that I had been taught to believe in, that being Christianity, I could then feel worthy to go to seminary and enter the ministry; I do not want to enter the ministry with a doubting heart, lest I cause others to struggle. The two items of the utmost importance to our faith is the resurrection of the Christ and the Trinity. I’d say that I feel comfortable with the evidence of the resurrection for the Bible states its evidence throughout the New Testament which we should assume as factual. What I am beginning to reflect on is the Trinity. If one reads the Old Testament, one reads about a “living God,” Christians might claim this was Jesus but he was begotten and the God of the Jews was the unbegotten. If one continues they will read a large number of accounts that Jesus is a separate being from God the Father, as Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father. Unfortunately many cults realize this too, but then also go way beyond this point. My goal is to only try to find and understand the truth to know what I believe.
